The Cities

The first issues focused mainly on graffiti from Espoo, Finland’s second-largest city. From issue #4 onward, the coverage expanded to the entire capital region. Which means Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and surrounding areas. We even got few photos from Turku.

Most of the photos were taken along the main motorways in the capital city area, with the primary focus in the first issues being the Länsiväylä area. Another spot we photographed a lot was the train tracks, which consisted of two main lines: the coastal line and the main line. The coastal line runs from Helsinki to Espoo and continues toward Turku and other areas on the west coast. The main line also starts in Helsinki but heads north, later branching off into several different routes. In the nineties, Helsinki was the only city in Finland with a subway system, and its above-ground section ran from Sörnäinen to the eastern parts of the city. Various Hall of Fame walls of that time were usually located along highways or train tracks.

Occasionally we received material from pen pals abroad, including the Netherlands (Bomber Magazine) and France (Xplicit Grafx & 33 C’est Fresh!), who sometimes forwarded us photos from cities like Paris, Bordeaux, Stockholm, and Copenhagen.
